Bari Vaz

Finance Chair – Music Therapy for Veterans

Bari Vaz has built a career at the intersection of innovation, service, and community impact. With 20 years of experience in the banking industry, she worked in the Information Technology divisions of First NBC, Bank One, and Whitney National Bank, where she partnered with project teams to design solutions that improved efficiency and service—ranging from innovative desktop systems for bank branches to interactive voice-response platforms and compliance reporting for public funds and the IRS.

During a career transition, Bari served as Development Director for a private elementary school, where she combined her technical expertise with a passion for education—writing grants, developing outreach programs, and connecting families with new opportunities.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Bari turned her focus to rebuilding and revitalizing her community. She led nonprofit initiatives as Director for Rebuilding Together and for one of the Urban Main Street economic development programs launched by then–Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu, supporting the historic Tremé and French Quarter neighborhoods. Her leadership helped restore not only buildings, but also hope, livelihoods, and a sense of place.

After relocating to San Diego in 2008, Bari entered the tax industry, earning her Enrolled Agent certification and managing teams of tax experts for a national firm. Today, she continues to serve individuals and families through her family’s financial services business—bringing the same dedication, problem-solving skills, and community-minded spirit that have defined her career.
